Hey all,
so as it seems I will make the start here Smiley
Well, I think I will begin with my "academic career":
I got my A-Level in 2004 with the specialized courses Informatics and English.
After my basic military service I started my studies in Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrück, Germany, in 2005 and I am still working to get my bachelor's degree - hopefully next year. At the moment I'm staying at the University of South Florida in Tampa, USA and will return to Germany on christmas eve.
My interests in Cognitive Science are Neuropsychology and Neurobiopsychology, but AI and robotics are also interesting.
Besides my studies my hobbies are tabletop (Warhammer Fantasy) and chilling evenings with friends with a glass of Martini or big parties as well. Unfortunately, road biking is the only sport I do after canceling dancing (standard and latin). In the recent weeks I bought a new photo camera and want to get a bit into photography.
My favorite music is alternative or indie rock as well as electronic.
I think, this is enough for the beginning Wink

After finishing high school with maths and physics as majors I decided to study medicine for I considered it the best subject to pursue my social and scientific interests together. During my undergraduate studies at Charité Berlin I particularly enjoyed the neurophysiology and neurobiology courses and after deepening my knowledge in this field it was more or less clear to me that I wanted to do neuroscience research.
Since lab work is pretty much neglected in the clinical daily rountine of a medical student, I applied for the International Graduate Program Medical Neuroscience Berlin right after finishing my 1st state exam (Bsc equivalent for medics).

My main research interest lies within the field of learning & memory and how behaviour is reflected on different network oscillations.
For my Msc thesis and medical dissertation I will be at Yale University, Dept. of Pharmacology 2008-2010. After obtaining my MD and Msc I would like to do a PhD, preferably abroad.

In my free time I like playing the piano, reading non-neuroscientific literature and doing extreme sports such as table tennis and badminton... .

How about you guys?

Hey guys,

So I have finally gathered enough courage to write something here. Who am I (and I suddenly remember a lame Jackie Chan movie)? So well I am actually malaysian and my pursuit of a career in neuroscience has taken me to London and now Berlin.

I find myself rather interested in the field of pain research at the moment. Something about the concept of pain seemed paradoxical when I was first thought about it and now I find myself rather enthused by the field. I would say my main interest is in figuring out how changes in the nociceptive and pain pathways lead to aberrant pain states. Another question that intrigues me is what underlies the different pain sensitivities of different people.

Hey,

that's kind of interesting that u call your field of interest also 'pain'!! Wink
Right now i am elaborating on an review article with the follwing title: Link between Alzheimer's disease and depression with special regard to morphological changes within nociceptive networks of the hippocampus and the impact of chronic pain on the progress of these diseases

Maybe we could both communicate and exchange ideas...if u have any further hints concerning the pain processing within the hippocampus.....and just ask me if u d like to know more about neurodegenerative diseases.

Hi all
I'm Jorge from Colombia, at the moment I'm studying Medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá Colombia.
I became interested in neuroscience when I started to read the "I of the Vortex: From Neurons to Self " by Dr. Rodolfo LLinas. He is awesome, then I focus in all the things Dr. Llinas has done for science, he's just an amazing person.
When I was reading that topics I had some courses about neurophysiology, neuroanatomy... and I started to love this area. At the moment I'm trying to read more about byophysics just to have good biological basis for a future research. Actually my interests are memory, stress and PTSD.
In my free time I like to party, hang out with friends Grin. I practice Taekwondo and swimming, I also like to write (non scientific stuff) and poetry.

I think that's it Smiley

Hey all,
I'm very glad to have an opportunity to introduce myself to you!
I'm a student of Russian State Medical University (Moscow), Medicobiological Faculty. My future is linked to the primary care, but all i have to do is to fight against it and become a really perfect neuroscientist.
I am a leading specialist of the Neuroresearch group (Moscow. RAMS) in extrapyramidal disorders, functional disorders of basal ganglia and the mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease. An author of five scientific publications (also in English), two research projects; reviewer. Prize-winner at Vernadsky National Contest of Student Research Projects (Medicine and Health).
My last work is linked to the use of monoclonal antibodies in the neurospecific proteins research, e.g. glial fibrillary acidic protein.

In my free time I enjoy playing the piano - Liszt, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and others.
Fell free to ask me! and i am eager to become partners with you!

Hello all!

I will try to remember things as distant as school. My majors were in chemistry and maths, after I went on to studying medicine at Belarusian State Medical University in Minsk, and continuing it now at Charite- Berlin. In September 2007 I’ve joined Medical Neurosciences Master Program.

My interests are in psychiatry, cognitive science and consciousness research. Apart from that in global health issues and use of new media in medicine and neuroscience.

Since I had a strange idea of becoming a psychiatrist I decided to get a training in martial arts, don’t know how these two are connected Wink  So now my aim is to officially wear  white coat with a black belt!

I like traveling to new countries (the main reason is to explore the chocolate landscapes Smiley and I always listen to music no matter what I am doing.

Feel free to message me about everything and add me on a Facebook,  I am usually friendly person =)

Hello Everyone!

First, I'd realy like to say I'm very excited such a forum exists (Seems like it existed since 2006  Shocked) and I'll be very happy to contribute here (This is my very first post, more to come soon!  now about this topic "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days", hope it gets more active ^^) and as much as I'll try to contribue, I'm sure such a forum is going to contribute to me more! One thing to notice - my English isn't to good, I hope you forgive me for that Wink.

Now, about me... I live in Israel, Haven't started any high education study yet (nvm the reason), only self thought using the greatest library in the world - the internet (which this forum resides in aswell). Currently interested to find a faculty where I could study the field (A year and a half from now).

My speciallities are: software (ASM, C, C++, C#, VB, Java) and electronics (VHDL, Altera, 8051, Embedded C, ASM, Orcad) development.

My interests are: the automational and biological implications neurons have on science and right now I'm just trying to find an active group I could have a chat with from time to time about this vast field.

My hobbies are: Computer games, All kinds of sports, dancing and parties with my friends.

I always listen to music no matter what I am doing.

When I listen to music (Which I don't do to much) I get my mind thinking in all directions - very useful when I want to make a nice invention Smiley

Hoping for a bright future for this forum,
Sincerely, Yocttar.
