Good morning,

I'm student of computer science but I also like reading magazines about biotechnology and other sciences. Recently I have read about the man who expects possibility of significant increasing the length of human life in about thirty years. This idea obsessed me and because of that I've got several questions. I am sure that by exhibiting further interest in those things I will obtain much interesting knowledge and this is my aim.

I have heard about interesting experiment made by - as far as I remember - British scientists. They used neurons from rat brain to artificially cultivate them, create some kind of brain and connect it to a robot. Can you tell me where can I find more information about this experiment, especially about neurological details, i.e. 1) how they isolated those neuron cells, 2) how they cultivated it (supported its growth), 3) how is it connected to cultivating of glial cells, 4) how is it connected to IPSC (induced pluripotent stem cells), 5) how could they proceed with input/output signals between brain and robot, 6) what kind of brain "architecture" did they obtain, 7) how could they stimulate learning of the brain those things which were important from the point of view of brain-robot communication and what they wanted the robot to do, Cool did it require any genetical manipulations or not, 9) what kind of laboratory equipment was required? I'm especially interested in freely available books in pdf-s because I don't really have money at this moment, however other bibliography would also be appreciated for future reading.

The other thing interesting for me is death of the brain. In general: 10) what is the reason of death of human being? Is it because of 11) too many NEGATIVE CHANGES to the body that it cannot live anymore; 12) what is the limit for those negative changes and 13) what things can be measured to say about the actual state of those changes?), 14) SHORT TELOMERS (I guess those can be somehow lenghtened because this is what happens if cells are exhibited to the presence of cells from [zarodek]; 15 - are there any ways or at least ideas how it could possibly be achieved to lenghten telomers?), 16) some kind of program which starts SELF-DESTRUCTION of the body at some conditions (what conditions?), 17) too many [WOLNE RODNIKI] or something connected to cancer, 18) some important DAMAGES in the brain? Those are the possible answers which I have thought about. Again, I would appreciate freely available pdf-s and other bibliography (maybe something cheap on betterworldbooks.com).

Let's come to the other topic if you are not too bored by my questions, answers to which I would really appreciate Smiley. The question is: 18) how to support living of brain outside the body? Let's say somebody is very old, his body is in bad state but brain is all right. 19) What are the biggest health problems with the brain connected with age? 20) What is approximated maximum time of live for brain itself? 21) Could body die because of old brain, even if it doesn't have any illnesses like parkinsonism, Alzheimer's illness and so on and all the other parts of the body are all right or artificial (like artificial heart)?, 22) what are the features of body which could possibly be measured by implanted microchips to notice that body is about to die? Coming back to main question in this paragraph, i.e. (18) - 19) would that be enough for the brain to place it in some kind of liquid and support blood-stream (with all important hormons inside it) to it in order to support its life?, 20) what kind of liquid would that be?

And the fourth topic Smiley, i.e. signals to and from the brain. 21) how can somebody replace the eye or ear with camera or microphone? I guess it is "just" about creating proper signals from camera or microphone and proper inputting it to the brain. 22) what about "output" of the brain, i.e. controlling the mouse pointer or other device by human's brain? 23) Is the only way to measure activity of neurons in the given part of the brain or are there any other methods?

I know these are many questions but I hope you can give me, at least, some guidelines what I can read to extend my knowledge about this topic Smiley. I started reading about brain anatomy but that won't be sufficient for me to find answers to the above questions. Let me summarize these four topics of interest: a) artificial cultivating of the brain and connecting it to a robot, b) reason of death, c) supporting the life of brain outside the body, d) receiving and sending signals to the brain.

Thank you in advance for your answers Smiley
